San Diego Outpatient Substance Use Treatment Center

Outpatient programs are best for people who need support to prevent relapse and improve personal progress. This is a great step down that offers flexibility in terms of how often you meet, what services you receive, and when your meetings take place. It is best suited for people who have very mild symptoms of a substance abuse disorder and need early intervention programs or who have already completed something like an IOP and want to transition to the next level down in the continuum of care.

With traditional outpatient programs, clients typically meet for an average of one or two hours per week, but that can be increased depending on individual needs. Meetings can occur at a treatment center or in community locations for 12-step meetings.

With outpatient treatment programs, clients can participate in their recovery services at a treatment center, participating in psychoeducation, recovery, and relapse prevention counseling in both individual and group sessions. They might also participate in services like support group meetings elsewhere in the community. The frequency and intensity of client’s recovery services are determined according to their particular individual needs and as set forth in their personalized treatment plans.

What is Outpatient Treatment?

Outpatient rehab is usually the lowest level of care, which means it requires the fewest number of hours each week but still gives you professional support, services, and social accountability.

With San Diego outpatient drug rehab programs, clients can participate in their recovery services at a treatment center a few days per week or several days per week, depending on the program. They might also participate in services like support group meetings elsewhere in the community. However, at no point are clients are required to remain overnight at the treatment center and instead get the opportunity to live at home.

One of the biggest benefits of a San Diego outpatient treatment program is the flexibility this type of schedule affords. Individuals can find things like evening or weekend sessions or move all their sessions to just a few days out of the week so that they are able to continue working, going to school, or caring for their family without forgoing treatment.

Levels of Outpatient Treatment

With the Center for Progressive Wellness, we care more about helping you heal than making a profit from your suffering or that of your teen. That is why we are a treatment center with several levels of care available, including:

  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
  • Traditional Outpatient programs
  • Co-occurring capable treatment

Intensive outpatient programs have longer durations and intensities compared to traditional outpatient programs.

Best for:

This San Diego outpatient drug rehab is best suited for people who want a program equally effective to a residential program but without the burden of having to extricate themselves from personal and professional responsibilities for several months in a row.

Goals can include:

  • Achieving sobriety
  • Fostering behavioral changes that support the new sobriety
  • Participating in ongoing community support like 12-step programs
  • Addressing other issues like probation requirements, getting a job, finding stable housing, or going to school
  • Improving coping skills
  • Developing a positive social support network

With intensive outpatient treatment, clients typically meet an average of nine hours or more per week, but that can be spread out over several days. The number of hours can change from one week to the next depending on progress being made and individual needs.

Center for Progressive Wellness’ Partial Hospitalization Program is designed to support teens who need significant clinical support to maintain stability, but do not require 24/7 supervision. Our program strives to provide a safe and supportive environment that promotes healthy coping skills, self-awareness, and helps teens build a strong foundation of recovery and learn how to manage their emotions, cope with stress, problem solve, and build healthy relationships. CFPW’s PHP services may integrate in-house treatment and peer services, encourage clients’ attendance at mutual-support groups, and collaborate with local community providers to secure needed services (e.g., medication-assisted treatment, psychological assessments, and trauma-specific treatment). Our services are provided by a multidisciplinary team of substance use disorder and mental health professionals for a minimum of twenty (20) hours a week.

Traditional outpatient programs are best for people who need support to prevent relapse and improve personal progress. This is a great step down that offers flexibility in terms of how often you meet, what services you receive, and when your meetings take place.

Best for:

This San Diego outpatient treatment is best suited for people who have very mild symptoms of a substance abuse disorder and need early intervention programs or who have already completed something like an IOP and want to transition into the next level down in the Continuum of care.

Goals can include:

  • Strengthening sobriety
  • Practicing relapse prevention techniques learned in sessions
  • Improving emotional management
  • Practicing stress management techniques

  • Addressing any other issues like continuing education or employment

With traditional outpatient programs, clients typically meet for an average of one or two hours per week, but that can be increased depending on individual needs. Meetings can occur at a treatment center or in community locations for 12-step meetings.

We also offer co-occurring disorder treatment programs, which can take the form of an IOP or traditional program, and it's best for people who have co-occurring mental health and addiction disorders.

Best for:

This outpatient drug rehab in San Diego is best suited for people who are struggling with an untreated mental health disorder like depression or anxiety, or underlying trauma at the same time as a substance abuse disorder.

Goals can include:

  • Learning to cope with symptoms of mental health disorders

  • Practicing coping skills
  • Boosting social support

With co-occurring disorder treatment, clients can meet for several hours each week, depending on individual needs. This might include additional services to help educate clients about their mental health disorder, how to manage the symptoms, and whether medication is needed.

Outpatient programs are also more affordable, especially when you consider our non-profit treatment center. Not only do you avoid significant costs associated with staying overnight at a treatment center, but you can find a facility that's close to home.

Outpatient programs are also more affordable.  Not only do you avoid significant costs associated with staying overnight at a treatment center, but you can find a facility that's close to home.

You can learn skills that apply to your daily life, work environment, or even home setting. The skills you learn get to be practiced in real time when you go home after your sessions.
