Center for Progressive Wellness’ Intensive Outpatient Program is designed to help teens dealing with substance use or co-occurring disorders. Our program strives to provide a safe and supportive environment that promotes healthy coping skills, self-awareness, and helps teens build a strong foundation of recovery and learn how to manage their emotions, cope with stress, problem solve, and build healthy relationships. CFPW’s IOP services may integrate in-house treatment and peer services, encourage clients’ attendance at mutual-support groups, and collaborate with local community providers to secure needed services (e.g., medication-assisted treatment, psychological assessments, and trauma-specific treatment). Our services are provided by a multidisciplinary team of substance use disorder and mental health professionals for a minimum of six hours a week.

‘IOP’ stands for an intensive outpatient program. It is right in the center of the continuum of care, meaning it’s not as demanding as a partial hospitalization program or residential program, but it also has more support than a traditional outpatient program.
Intensive outpatient programs can be used to address substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD, among others,. They are unique in that they allow clients to continue with their everyday lives without having to live at a treatment facility.
IOPs can be a transitional step for people who want to adapt to their daily life and community while also learning coping strategies and relapse prevention tools.

An intensive outpatient program is best for:
With an intensive outpatient program, you can still receive weekly support, usually with a minimum of six hours or more divided into several sessions spanning multiple days per week. These services are offered in an outpatient setting, so you can change the duration to be longer than a traditional residential program based on needs.
Intensive outpatient programs can be an excellent way for people to stay connected to their family, their friends, and their personal responsibilities or work obligations while continuing to get help for addiction and co-occurring disorders.
IOPs are often an invaluable alternative to residential programs, especially for those who have a safe and supportive home environment. Many of the services can incorporate skills a client can practice when they leave at the end of their session, as well as family therapy that can help improve communication and support at home.

Your family's path to wellness and healing begins at the Center for Progressive Wellness in San Diego, California.
You can expect to undergo an initial assessment or evaluation when you reach out to our team. If you are the parent of a teen in need, we will ask you and your team questions about their current condition, physical and mental health, as well as history of substance abuse.
This information enables us to curate a personalized recommendation for the level of care received and for which services should be included in that level of care, how often you should meet, and how long the program should last.
We encourage individuals to not only attend all of their scheduled hours of individual and group therapy but also participate in community programs like 12-step programs.
The length of the program can vary based on your needs, but it’s not uncommon to visit our facility three or four days per week for several hours at a time.
You will primarily participate in group therapy as part of your treatment plan. Studies indicate that group therapy can be just as effective as individual therapy, especially when treating clients at this level. Group therapy offers several benefits, such as:
The size and type of your group sessions will vary based on needs. You can expect to receive education about how addiction works, information about relapse prevention, and coping skills that you can apply each time you leave the facility.

Thousands of facilities provide intensive outpatient programs, and they make up forty-four percent of all the available drug and alcohol rehab programs offered across the United States. If you participate in an intensive outpatient program or you choose one for your teen, several benefits can be enjoyed.
One of the most significant benefits of participating in IOP treatment is that you can remain in your home and community while attending the sessions necessary for recovery. This provides a tangential benefit in the form of real-time practice adjusting to your new, sober environment.
In between sessions, from one week to the next, clients have the opportunity to practice things like coping skills, lifestyle skills, or stress management techniques. They can utilize communication guidelines with friends and family and then report back during a follow-on session on the effectiveness of these skills provided. This can be particularly useful for therapy like cognitive behavioral therapy, which involves a great deal of homework.
With IOP treatment, many people enjoy the schedule’s flexibility. On average, participants can expect a minimum of six hours per week depending on individual needs and preferences, but those hours are usually spread out across three or four days each week. This can be altered based on progress, but it’s small enough that it can fit into any other schedule.
This means participants in an IOP drug rehab don’t have to:
Instead, the programs can easily be scheduled around other obligations. Our team can accommodate individual and group sessions to fit the teen’s schedule.”
